Michigan is the home of many award winning artists and music icons. And with its memorable acts and historic venues, Michigan has been the crossroads of pop music for many years.
Below are some of the best, amazing and most memorable concerts and shows that happened in Michigan over the years.
The Beatles, Olympia Stadium, Detroit. 1964
The Beatles played two shows at Olympia Stadium in 1964 during their first visit to Detroit. They returned to Olympia in 1966.
Led Zeppelin, Pontiac Silverdome, 1977
Led Zeppelin played to 77,000 people in 1977 at Pontiac Silverdome.
The Goose Lake International Music Festival
A controversial show where around 200,000 people attended. Crowd were treated with the amazing performances by Faces, Chicao, Mountain, Bob Seger, MC5 and The Stooges among many others.
The Who, Pontiac Silverdome
The Who played in the inaugural concert at the Silverdome in 1975. Around 76, 000 people attended the said concert.
U2, Joe Louis Arena, 1985
U2’s performance at Joe Louis arena was almost flawless and almost holy quality.
Eminem and Jay-Z, Comerica Park, Detroit 2010
Michigan’s very own, Eminem, teamed up with Jay-Z for “The Home and Home Tour” in 2010.
Jimi Hendrix, Fifth Dimension, Ann Arbor 1967
The Guitar God, Jimi Hendrix, played at set in 1967 at now closed Fifth Dimension in Ann Arbor. This was his first tour of the U.S.
Kiss, Cobo Hall, Detroit, 1976
KISS is simply legendary in Michigan. The band recorded part of it’s award-winning and Gold-certified “Alive” live album that launched them to fame.

So many amazing concerts. Looks like Michigan has some great venue and attracts plenty of top performers. Not surprised since Detroit is big on the music scene.
We really do get some fantastic concerts here in Michigan. I love summertime shows at DTE, previously Pine Knob.
This made me really want to go to a concert outside! There are quite a few in the Grand Rapids area during the summer.
I will have to search if there are videos of these concerts. I would have loved to watch the Jimi Hendrix concert live but I was still a toddler at that time. 🙂

Michigan’s music scene is definitely a long-standing one. I would have loved to have seen The Beatles or The Who. I feel like we still have a pretty fantastic modern concert scene too.

Michigan has a lot of musical history to be proud of. Those classic examples above there are just a few of them. One of my favorite fun movies is Detroit Rock City, it’s about four boys getting into an adventure to a Kiss concert.
Michigan is perfect place for this kind of event. I’m pretty sure that more big concerts will be happen there.

I have a lot of hometown pride for Detroit, I think all michiganders do. So I loved seeing Comerica park on the list with Jay Z and Eminem.
